Mine shafts are imperfect, distinct, dangerous memorials to the origins of a community. Until, one day, they are no more. For decades, the mines are left opened, eventually blocked off only by rusted barbed wire. In July 2017, a middle schooler falls 115 feet down a shaft - and survives. Some time between then and May 2018, the mines are unceremoniously graded over. <img width="1200" height="675" width_o="1200" height_o="675" use simple geometry to acknowledge and channel the memory of the stones; An attempt to feel once again the scale of a huge hole cut into the ground; An attempt to impose another form upon the This was done with great intention, creating a unique “stage” within the gourd while minimizing cuts and maintaining its integrity in a variety of environments. Alongside a project manager, I guided this project from the very first client interviews all the way to the delivery of a conceptual design package. To preserve privacy and non-disclosure,all locations, organizations (excluding my then-design firm) and people have been anonymized, changed, or ommitted from this report. Full Conceptual Report Project Highlight: Research Deep-Dive Leads to Realignment (Twice)The primary point of complexity in this project arose from the cramped site conditions. To the west is the existing water treatment plant, and to the east are protected wetlands. This is a small but flourishing riparian area, and its protection is critical. The US Army Corps of Engineers would say there should be at least 15 feet between their borders and any construction, including grading and paving. Meanwhile, parts of the Hawk County Land Use Regulations refer to a setback of up to 75 feet between all wetland and river areas. This latter constraint would have effectively halved the usable area of the site.It was my thorough research that found this potential difficulty, and I presented my findings and proposed solutions to the Board of County Commissioners in a closed meeting. This included expanding the plant’s footprint as well as new signficant landscaping and paving which cut significantly into our project’s site. The only issue? These changes originated in a different parcel and so never registered in the history of ours, and the client’s assurance of the up-to-dateness of their provided survey was simply taken as a given. The variety in campuses is complemented by a variety in classroom subjects: Microbiology, computer science, and marketing tourism, to name a few. During the first half of class, I support teachers in the course of their lessons as a native speaker, in an environment that is otherwise all second-language English learners. Architectural Designer&nbsp;– D2C Architects October 2022-August 2023 | Denver, Colorado, US As a designer at D2C, I played a key role the pre-construction design process, and was deeply involved in every aspect, from conducting user interviews and site visits to delivering the final documents. My collaboration with job captains and project managers spanned a variety of projects, each with its unique demands and challenges. My daily tasks were diverse, ranging from correcting redlines and specifying equipment to conducting research and developing site analyses. This variety kept me on my toes and ensured that every day brought something new. I simultaneously managed up to 6 projects, each at different scales and stages of delivery. This required careful planning and discussion with my coworkers to effectively manage time, resources, and information. A significant part of my role involved coordinating between the internal design team, engineering consultants, and clients. I frequently prepared and presented content to stakeholders, ensuring everyone was on the same page. In Revit (v. 2019-2023), I developed drawing sets tailored to the needs of various projects. My work focused exclusively on public projects, including Emergency Services response and training centers, vehicle fleet maintenance facilities, recreation and event centers, and even multi-family housing. Student Assistant – CU Denver CLAS Dean’s OfficeJuly 2019 2022-August 2022 | Denver, Colorado, USAs a Student Assistant in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office, I served two distinct roles. In my first role, I was a general service resource for the students in the college. I assisted them with their queries and served as a campus resource, providing guidance and support to help them navigate their academic journey. In the course of this work, I worked individually with not only students but their families in resolving issues, finding information, and guiding them through the bureaucracy of the University system. I accomplished this well, and was, in the words of one parent, “...incredibly kind, patient, sympathetic, and most importantly helpful.” In my second role, I served as an administrative assistant to the staff, faculty, and Deans of the college. I helped with general office work and contributed to longer-term projects, ensuring the smooth operation of the office. Day-to-day operations included management of the college’s inbox and general administrative tasks as required by the deans and support staff of the office. Longer term projects included recruitment efforts, document archival and digitalization, and even helping to plan the Denver Metro Science &amp; Engineering Fair. In response to the shift from in-person work to online-only due to COVID, I took the initiative to develop a number of Dean’s Office procedures. I later took this auditing approach and applied it back to the front-desk resource role, creating a system to track and analyze queries by time, date, and type. This analysis ultimately led to a more efficient scheduling system for the front desk. Easement Inspection Intern&nbsp;– Historic Denver June 2022-August 2022 | Denver, Colorado, US As an Easement Inspection Intern at Historic Denver, Inc., I planned and conducted visual façade inspections of over 70 buildings around Denver, each with a Historic Denver easement. My role involved training and coordinating a team of volunteers to assist in these inspections, ensuring a smooth and efficient process. Before each inspection, I communicated with building owners and property managers, setting expectations and addressing any concerns. After each inspection, I compiled detailed reports, providing valuable insights into the condition of each building. My approach to inspections was both detailed and holistic. I took thorough notes and detailed photographs, and reviewed previous inspection reports to gain a comprehensive understanding of each building’s condition. Over the course of 3 months, I led a small team of volunteers to investigate and record the condition of over 70 buildings in and around the city. This was a deeply enjoyable and rewarding position. Nearly all of my time inspecting was done alone and outdoors with just a camera and clipboard. The following piece developed towards the end of my internship, and out of two primary experiential sources:1. The great contrast between the conditions and designs of pre-WWII “Streetcar Suburbs” where I inspected homes and the post-war gridded “Suburbia” where I lived. 2. Spending just a little bit too much time walking in the summer sun along poorly maintained sidewalks.
